Week 6 Story: The Hippie Life

Image
The Hippie Life ( This story is not recommended for those sensitive to the topic of marijuana use.) There once was a happy, hippie name Chip. Chip grew up with two hippies for parents. They raised him and Chip's little sister in a house filled with peace and love. He was a naturally calm, chill kinda guy. One day Chip was hanging out with his friend on her front porch. His friend was smoking marijuanna while the two were sitting there talking. Then she tried convincing Chip to try some. His friend said, "Chip, why don't you just try a little bit?" Chip replied, "I'm alright. I actually have to go soon, so I probably shouldn't." His friend responded, "Oh, come on man. You'll love it once you try it." Chip was not usually one to give into his friends, but he was a little curious about trying it and so he did. A few minutes later Chip told his friend, "Woah, this is great. I don't know why I haven't tried this be

Persian Tales, Part A I like how each story in the Persian Tales section begins with, "Once upon a time when there was no one but God."Also, each story ends with the same line, "And now my story has come to an end, but the sparrow never got home." I like this because it connects the various tales even though they are completely unrelated. This would be an interesting technique to try in a storybook. Below are my notes on a few of my favorite stories from the section. The Wolf and the Goat: -Wolf trick the young goats to open the door, and then he steals them away -Their mother goes to find them and fights the goat to get them back The Boy Who Became a Bulbul:  -The son was murdered by his father and then his stepmom cooked him -His sister buried him and he reincarnated into a bird (a Bulbul bird) -This bird went door to door singing the story of how he died and reincarnated -Everyone who listened to the bird's song was deceived, except wh

After his wife, the love of his life, died, the Sultan would not speak to anyone and would not accept help or therapy. He never left his room and barely moved from his bed. When his wife was alive, she would tell him amazing stories every night. Without her a bedtime stories he could not sleep. He hadn’t been able to sleep since his wife passed away because he missed her and her stories too much. After many weeks the Sultan’s emotional state still had not improved. Week 4 Story: No New Friends

Image
Casey, Janice, and Daniel had been friends since freshmen year of high school. It was now their senior year, and their final first day of high school. That morning before school, they made plans to meet at their normal spot to sit together at lunch. At their meeting spot, they were eating and reminiscing on their craziest experiences that they had together. Then Casey said something that created an awkward silence among them. She said, "Remember when my parents were out of town that one weekend, and I threw that Halloween party at my house!" Janice and Daniel looked at each other uncomfortably. Then, Janice said, "Um you didn't invite us to that party... I don't think we were your friends at that time." Casey felt badly for bringing it up so she responded, "Oh...well you two didn't miss much. I was cleaning up trash and vomit for days! It was a mess, so really it wasn't too fun." They all felt a little awkward now and were sitting

I would like to focus my storybook on Zeus. In my previous project post I said that I would like to base my story around Zeus and his multiple loves . I would begin by introducing Zeus who would be: a ladies man, a successful professional, and an influential person. Then I would introduce his wife, Hera. I would discuss her characteristics and explain how she fell in love with Zeus. Another episode of the story would discuss Aphrodite, the most beautiful and youngest mistress that Zeus ever had. I could create one more episode about a second mistress, and then the following episodes would be a story about how Zeus continues to fool these women with his lies and charm. I don't want to spoil the ending, but in the end the powerful women would find out about Zeus's deceptive ways and get their revenge on him. "Phoo"; Web Source: flickr .

Some Awesome & Praiseworthy Feedback Strategies :)

Image
Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback This article was interesting, but my perspective on feedback is similar to this idea of "feedforward". I think it is very important to receive critiques on previous performance, and then to discuss specific ways to improve future performance. The article discusses how giving feedback regarding the past is not allowed during the feedforward process, but in my opinion I feel feedback back about the past an important aspect. I liked the ideas presented in the article, but I do not agree with everything it discusses. The Difference Between Praise and Feedback  I really enjoyed this article because it made me question my beliefs about praising desired behavior. In the business world, I have experienced this and learned about praising employees as a management strategy. I feel I often give too much praise, and after reading this I am more aware of this. Hopefully, I can practice these techniques during my blog commenting because I probabl
